I now have a decent start on the book. It turns out it isn’t quit the novel I thought it was. I figured it would be a mostly harmless story with some sadness but nothing shocking. I think I might have been very wrong. There is much tension in the story. And there is not only sadness but confusion, brutality and injustice. I have no idea how it will turn out, which is exactly the way I like it.

A book club that I’m a part of just met about this book. It had mixed reviews, usually strong on either side. I’m looking forward to hearing more of your thoughts.

Blindness is certainly grim, but I still loved it since Saramago perfectly reduced his characters to their primeval nature. I used to teach and had recommended it to another teacher, who hated it. She didn’t see the point in reading about excrement and suffering.

I have yet to read any Saramago. I’ve heard really great things about this book though. I’m looking forward to reading your take or review on it!!

Just over half way through and it’s gotten quite grim. I’m not sure why I thought it would be a lighter book, I can definitely see these things happening in a situation like that. The story is sad, not sure how it will end, or if it will end well, I’m fascinated to see.
